Pillar 58” x 51” x 20”
I chose to focus on certain portions of Genesis 28 that captured my attention. My sculpture represents Jacob’s response to his visitation. He constructed a pillar. All through the Bible stones (whole stones) signify holy truths. He (Jacob) set the stone he had put under his head up for a pillar and he poured oil on the top of it.
The angel on the top of the pillar represents the words spoken by God to Jacob during the visitation. God promised blessing, protection and His presence until the promise was complete.
John Lovett says: Formal balance is the safe, solid symmetrical balance used in much religious art. It is serious and predictable in keeping with the messages it delivers.

Valley of Dry Bones 23” x 48” x 72”
In chapter 37 of Ezekiel, the prophet Ezekiel was told to prophesy and speak to a great number of dry bones in a valley.
This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”(Ezekiel 37:5-6)

Seraph 71” x 26” x 40”
“Seraph” resembles a mighty warrior, His form atop a pinnacle of powerful ocean waves. With his outstretched arm, he steps forward to offer a gift with power of its own. The “warrior” depicts a heavenly being from Biblical text, stepping forward to touch Isaiah’s lips with a live coal from an altar near God.
The seraph in chapter 6 of Isaiah says, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
Isaiah answers God’s question and delivers a message to the people that will neither understand nor perceive.

Gate of Heaven 103” x 99” x 21”
Inspired by Bethel podcast "Gate of Heaven"- The content of this piece addresses an open heaven. An open heaven is the topic in Acts 2 and in Genesis 28. In John 1:51 Jesus speaks to Nathanael of an open heaven.
He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” (John 1:51)

AI Overview
Some early translations of the Bible interpreted the word nissi differently:
-
The Septuagint
-

-
The Vulgate
-
Translators believed nissi came from the Hebrew word na·sas', which means "hoist" or "lift up". They translated Jehovah-Nissi as "Jehovah Is My Exaltation".
*Vulgate -the principal Latin version of the Bible, prepared mainly by St. Jerome in the late 4th century, and adopted as the official text for the Roman Catholic Church. (Oxford Languages)
*Septuagint- the earliest actually existing Greek translation of the Old Testament from the original Hebrew. (Britannica)

Hermit 29" x 9" x 7"
Giacometti was an artists that I looked to during my studies in college.
the textural surfaces, posture and exaggerated size of the hands of this figure express how someone might feel, bound with a heavy emotional load.
